Pattisons Academy - Improving the lives of children

Summer Camp 2007 a HUGE SUCCESS!

Our second annual summer camp was held for five weeks in June and July of 2007. We are sad that it is over, but everyone involved had a wonderful time! 34 children from around the Lowcountry participated in very active days of physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and field trips.

We planted flowers with Mrs Beth and Mrs. Dee, performed in a play, participated in Hippotherapy (riding horses as part of a therapy program with a certified therapist) at Rein and Shine in Awendaw, played at the water park, were visited by the Hat Ladies of Charleston, Steve Jurch of the Center for Therapeutic Massage, the wonderful crew from Stella Nova, and the K-9 Care Unit.  We even produced and acted in our own play based on the book The Little Engine That Could by Watty Piper. We have more pictures than we can ever show you.  You can check out our busy schedule for yourself.

Our heartfelt thanks goes out to all of our staff and volunteers. We could not have done such a wonderful job had it not been for your love, devotion, and professionalism. Words cannot express our appreciation to the following organizations:

  • MUSC PT, OT, CSD students and faculty – Your involvement was critical to the success of our camp.
  • Rein and Shine Staff and Volunteers – Your kindness, patience and organization was wonderful.  It was hot, but you all ALWAYS had a positive attitude and a smile on your faces for the kids and we appreciate that.
  • Pattison’s Academy Board Members – Your support financially and your time has been overwhelming.
  • Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church – The graciousness you exhibited by letting Pattison’s Academy use your wonderful facility was only surpassed by your hospitality and support. What a wonderful church with wonderful people!
  • The Rural Transporation Management Association – A very professional group of people who far exceeded our expectations concerning our transporation needs. Thank you for your assistance, positive attitude and willingness to do what was necessary to ensure our campers got where they needed to go safely and on time.
  • Orangeburg/Calhoun Technical College Nursing students – A group of 6 students who drove from Orangeburg to be a part of our camp. Thank you for your involvement and help.  You went above and beyond and we appreciate what you did for the children and us.
  • Jane Hirsch and the K-9 Care Unit – Our children loved your sweet dogs and we appreciate your time and willingness to visit us.
  • The Hat Ladies of Charleston – Thank you for taking the time to come make some hats with us while sharing your impeccable sense of style.
  • Stella Nova - Everyone who came was so wonderful to our campers and did a great job to make sure that every child got a great little spa treatment and felt pampered.  We could tell you really enjoyed what you were doing and the children enjoyed it even more.
  • Iacofano Deli – The food you catered and donated to our open house was wonderful and far exceeded our hopes and expectations. It was delicious and you helped to make our play an EVENT!
  • Steve Jurch and The Center for Therapeutic Massage - Thank you for spending some time and giving our campers massages.  We could see frmo the looks on their faces, they felt wonderful.
